Bulletin Highlights
THE
INTERNET: If you look up the word "hip" in the dictionary,
you probably won't find a picture of the Catholic Church. Maybe that's
because ours is a church which measures things by centuries - not
seconds. Yet surprisingly, the church does an amazingly hip job on the
internet. Because of its ever-increasing impact on our world, the Net
has become an essential tool in the church's mission of evangelization.
The Vatican website (www.vatican.va)
is a good place to visit. The U.S. Bishops have their own site (www.usccb.org),
as well. Don't forget www.toledodiocese.org,
and www.catholicchronicle.org.
The Net allows the Catholic Church to reach into people's homes and
meets them where they are! (Adapted from an article by Lino Rulli in the
Catholic Chronicle). These and several other Catholic websites can be
accessed through links on this website's Catholic
Resources and Home
pages.
DID YOU KNOW?
Traditionally the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord has been a holy day
of obligation celebrated 50 days after Easter on a Thursday. Most
dioceses, including the Toledo Diocese, have transferred the celebration
to the 7th Sunday of Easter, which is May 4 this year. If Ascension is
transferred, Thursday, May 1, is observed as an Easter Weekday or the
optional memorial of St. Joseph the Worker.
YOUR PRAYERS ARE
REQUESTED for those who have died, especially Mabel Dye, Bill
Buchman, and Juanita Collins, grandmother of Father Mark Davis.
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND:
We will once again pray for sick members of our parish in the Sunday
petitions. If you know of a member who would like to be prayed for
during the weekend Masses please contact the parish office by Mondays.
You may reach us at 352-4195 or e-mail secretary@stalbg.org.
This week we ask you to pray for the following sick: Rex Baxter, Marilyn
Keogh, JerryTrabbic, Elaine Webber, mother of Jean Bargiel, and Lucas
DeLaTorre, father of Phil DeLaTorre.
A THANK YOU FROM FATHER
ED: “I don’t remember when I have received so many birthday
cards. Thanks to all at St. Aloysius for your cards and kind words.”
Father Ed Schleter
CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES
AT MASS: In an effort to make our Masses more family-friendly,
we have recently begun to offer baby-sitting at the 10am and Noon
Masses. This is in addition to our Children’s Liturgy of the Word at
the 10am Mass.
Babysitting is offered in the Extended Day Room (just above the gym –
the stairs are to the right of the gym doors) for children ages 18
months and older. We have one paid staff member working with the
children. Ms. Kaylee Keating is an early childhood major at the
university. She will be assisted by parish volunteers,
both parents & young people, so there are two workers with the
children at all times. Feel free to stop by before Mass to meet Kaylee
and introduce your young children to her. We ask families to register
so we know who to expect and have contact & care information for you
and your child.
Our Children’s Liturgy of the Word continues at the 10am Mass. This
program serves young children ages 4 and up who are able to attend Mass
and are ready to listen to the Word of God presented at their own level
in a more casual atmosphere. Children attend Mass with their families,
then leave with ministers during the readings and homily. They come back
at the presentation of the gifts to rejoin their families in church.
IN HONOR OF MARY, the
Rosary will be recited before Mass during the month of May. We hope you
will join us in these prayers and invite you to bring your rosary to
Mass during the next few weeks.
PLEASE WELCOME Father
Bob Haas, who will celebrate the Masses for us on Wednesday, May 7, and
Thursday, May 8.
ATTENTION ALTAR SERVERS:
a new schedule will be coming out in mid April. Rachel Simler will be
contacting currently scheduled servers to verify that you want to
continue with this ministry and to explain our new scheduling procedure.
If you have any questions, you may contact Mrs. Simler.
NEW ALTAR SERVERS: if you are in the 4th grade or above and would like
to join the altar server ministry, please contact
Sharon Hall in the parish office, 419-352-4195, by Friday, March
28th to schedule a training date.
LAY MINISTRY PROGRAM:
Are you interested in learning more about your faith, in reflecting on
your life and what your faith is calling you to do, in forming yourself
to the image of Christ? If we want to evangelize we must know our faith.
The Lay Ministry program will assist you in your growth and education.

ST. ALOYSIUS SCHOOL
DEVELOPMENT UPDATE: Some of the goals established for the
Communication and Publication team were to place more information about
the school in the church bulletin. This will inform parishioners and the
community about school events and achievements and can also serve to
thank people and publicize specific needs. The Lion’s Pride was
created and inserted in the bulletin quarterly. The Apples for Teachers
program was established to convey the teachers’ wish list. A new
marketing brochure for prospective families was also created. The
committee has examined and revised the school logo and established
guidelines for its use. In the future we intend to improve the website
and use the Sentinel, the Schoolgram, and the parish bulletin to better
advantage in keeping the alumni and the community abreast of student
accomplishments and upcoming events.
If
you have had a change of information please e mail us at stal_development@nwoca.org
or mail us at the school in care of Mary Lou Szabo at P. O. Box 485, Bowling Green, OH 43402.
