FROM THE PASTOR

DEAR FRIENDS,

One of the great benefits of being pastor here at St. Aloysius parish is that I am the Chaplain of our local chapter of the Knights of Columbus.  As Catholics, most of you are very familiar with that great works of service, fund-raising, and support that the Knights have done around the world for many years.  Our local Knights are always ready and willing to lend a hand, lift a hammer, or offer assistance for about anything that we need here.

This Saturday after the evening Mass, I am honored to assist in the installation of this year’s officers.  On behalf of the parish, congratulations to Dave Lewis who was elected as Grand Knight again this year.  Thank you, Dave, for your willingness to serve the Knights and our parish again this year.  Many thanks and congratulations also to the other officers: Mark Lause, Bill Keeling, Dan Goodenow, Jim Winslow, Todd Grillot, Mike Kleman, Frodey Keeling, Mark Kessler, Wayne Michaelis, Steve Benner, and John McAvoy.

This weekend, we welcome back my friend, Fr. Tom Wehinger, for the Sunday Masses.  Fr. Tom is a retired priest of the diocese who was most recently the pastor of Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Toledo. He will be with you because I will be on my way to Cape May New Jersey.  When I lived and worked in New Jersey after college, I became associated with a Family Retreat Center in Cape May Point run by the Marianist Brothers and priests. (The Marianists are the religious order that runs the University of Dayton.)  My best friend from high school and his family will be serving as “host family” next week and they asked me to come along.  I will be serving as chaplain for the week’s retreat which is held a block from the ocean.  After the retreat, we will be headed up to Acadia National Park in Maine.  Please be assured of my daily prayers, especially at daily mass.  I will return for confessions and Mass on August 7th.

In my absence, please call the parish office for any needs, including sacramental.  As always, our parish staff will do everything they can to help you.

I hope you are planning on joining us for our celebration of the 50th Anniversary of our school on August 8th.  Bishop Blair will be joining us for noon Mass and there will be a celebration in Hartmann Hall following Mass.  Please pray for the success of this important milestone in our parish.

Have a great week!

Peace,
Fr. Mark
