CYO CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAM

Cross CountryCross Country is open to girls & boys, K through 8th grade. Registration is held in April. Practices start in late August and 5 meets are held on Saturdays, September through mid-October.

The team typically practices twice a week. The program is designed to teach the runners the fundamentals, all skill levels are welcome. CYO cross country provides a unique opportunity to compete both as an individual and as a team. The coaching staff is made up of college students and parents.

Informal Fun Runs are held in the summer.

Members of the St. Aloysius Cross Country program ran at the Glass City Kids Marathon.  Micheala Urban, Josie Genson, and Katarina Genson all participated and helped raise money for Autism Speaks.  Katarina Genson was the champion in the girls under 12 division.

Fall 2010 Season

Parents, Coaches, and Athletes:

We are glad to have you as part of the St. Aloysius Cross Country Family for the 2010 season! This program has a long tradition of promoting fun, fitness and faith to the youth of our community. Thanks to all of you for joining us on this important mission.

The cross country program is subdivided into four teams; pee wee (Kindergarten and first grade- ½ mile), minor (second and third grades- ¾ mile), cadets (4th, 5th, and 6th grades- 1 mile), and juniors (7th and 8th grades- 2 miles).

Our coaches for the fall Cross Country season are listed in the sidebar on the right.

We would love to have more parents involved as coaches so please contact Dr Genson if you are interested in serving as a coach.

We have a great group of kids this year and are very excited to get started. If you know of any other children who are interested in joining the team please have their parents contact Dr Genson. We will be accepting new team members until after the start of school.

Cross country practices for grades 4-8 will start on Thursday, August 19th. They will be held every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 530 to 630 PM.

Practices for grades K-3 DO NOT START UNTIL August 24th. Grades K-3 only practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays and do not practice on Mondays. From August 17th through September 9th all practices (all age groups) will be held at Carter Park in Bowling Green. From September 13th through October 7th they will be held at City Park in BG.

We recommend that children start getting ready for the season by participating in 30 minutes of outdoor activity daily for the remainder of the summer. Running, swimming, or biking will all build endurance and strength and prepare the children for practice. We recommend that children try to run the race distance for their age group (K-1st 1/2 mile, 2nd-3rd 3/4 mile, 4th-6th 1 mile, 7th-8th 2 miles) once or twice a week for the remainder of the summer.

Please feel free to contact Dr Genson with any questions. We will continue to add information and updates throughout the summer.
